Gift opening can be lovely for the parent-to-be and a little quiet for everyone watching. Baby shower gift bingo gives guests something simple to look for, without turning the moment into a performance.

What is baby shower gift bingo?
Guests mark gifts on their bingo cards as those gifts are opened. The aim is to complete the winning pattern announced by the host. This is different from a caller-led bingo game, where someone draws words or numbers. Choose one version and explain it before starting.
Our Boho Baby Shower Bingo listing describes an editable 5 × 7-inch Canva card with a baby-carriage free space. It is one template, not a promised set of automatically randomized cards. Check the fields and squares in your purchased file before deciding how guests will fill them.
Prepare the cards and supplies
- One printed card for each participating guest, plus a few spares.
- Pens or pencils and a comfortable writing surface.
- A host copy with the agreed winning rule.
- Optional small prizes, chosen and purchased separately.
Print a test using our Printing Guide. Choose a writable paper surface and confirm that the squares have enough room for the wording. Physical cards, pens, gifts and prizes are not included with the digital template.
Fill the squares before any presents are opened
For a blank gift-bingo card, ask guests to write different baby gifts in the empty squares. Examples could include a book, blanket, bib, outfit or baby socks. Agree how specific the words should be: “clothing” and “yellow sleepsuit” make very different games. These are illustrative game entries, not a shopping list or advice about what a family needs.
Guests should complete their cards before they know which presents will be opened. Use a different item in each square unless you have announced another rule. If your file already contains gift words, review the arrangements; identical cards with identical wording can produce many winners at the same time.
For younger guests or anyone who finds writing difficult, offer help or let people play in pairs. Participation should be optional.
Explain the rules in one short announcement
“Fill the empty squares with different gifts you think might be opened. The center is a free space. When a matching gift is opened, mark its square. We are playing for one complete horizontal, vertical or diagonal line. Call ‘bingo’ when you have one, and we will check the line together.”
Only mention a free space if the selected card actually has one. Explain whether a general word counts for a more specific gift, whether duplicate gifts can mark more than one square, and how many rounds you plan to play. Keep those decisions the same for everyone.
Run the game without interrupting the parent-to-be
- Hand out the cards while guests settle into the gift-opening area.
- Allow time to fill them, then announce that writing is finished.
- As presents are opened, name the item clearly without revealing private messages or gift values.
- Let guests mark their own cards. Avoid stopping after every item to check everyone’s progress.
- When someone calls bingo, verify the completed pattern against gifts already opened.
- Announce the winner and either finish or explain the next round before continuing.
If several people win on the same gift, recognize the tie. You might share the win or use a small random draw among the tied players if you announced that approach beforehand. Avoid inventing a new rule only after seeing who won.
When gift bingo is not the right fit
Check whether the parent-to-be actually wants to open gifts during the shower. If gifts will remain wrapped or be opened privately later, a gift-opening game will not work as described. Choose another activity rather than pressuring the family to change their plans. For a virtual shower, make sure every participant can access a usable card and hear the gifts being named.
The Baby Shower Planning Guide can help you place activities around food and conversation. A few well-explained rounds are enough; you do not need to fill every minute with games.
Questions hosts often ask
Does everyone need a different card?
Different entries or arrangements reduce identical winning patterns. Do not assume buying a single editable template supplies a randomized guest set. Read the listing and prepare the cards appropriately.
How many winners should there be?
Choose before the shower based on your supplies and time. One winner, tied winners or several short rounds can all work if the rules are clear.
Can guests play without prizes?
Yes. Bingo can simply give people a shared activity. Explain that it is a relaxed game rather than a prize competition.
Your host checklist
- The family is comfortable with public gift opening.
- Cards and writing supplies are ready.
- The free-space and matching rules are clear.
- The winning pattern and tie procedure are announced.
- Prizes, if used, are separate from the template purchase.
