First Birthday Welcome Sign Wording and Display Guide

A first birthday welcome sign helps guests find the celebration and introduces your party theme. The best wording is usually brief: a welcome message, your child's name and the birthday being celebrated. Choose a display size that fits your space, then keep the entrance clear and comfortable.
This guide covers wording, size choices and setup for a first birthday welcome sign. Browse our editable welcome-sign templates when you are ready to select a design.
Simple first birthday welcome-sign wording
A short message gives your design room to breathe and helps guests read it as they arrive. Replace the bracketed name in these examples:
- Welcome to [Name]'s first birthday
- One wonderful year. Welcome to [Name]'s birthday celebration
- Come celebrate our little one
- Welcome, family and friends. [Name] is turning one
- A little adventure begins here. Happy first birthday, [Name]
The sign does not need the full invitation wording. Guests are already at the venue, so the date, RSVP contact and long directions usually add unnecessary text. If you need practical information, keep it on a separate, clearly labeled notice.
Welcome wording for a safari or Wild One birthday
Let the theme influence the opening line while keeping the child's name easy to find.
- Welcome to [Name]'s Wild One birthday
- Our little explorer is one. Come celebrate!
- Welcome to [Name]'s safari adventure
- One little adventurer. One wonderful celebration
The Wild One safari welcome sign includes editable 8 × 10-inch and 18 × 24-inch designs. Its giraffe, elephant, lion and zebra artwork coordinates with the Little Adventurer safari invitation. The wording is editable, while the illustrated artwork is fixed.

Choosing a tabletop sign or a larger display
Measure the space before choosing your print size. An 8 × 10-inch sign can suit a tabletop frame near the entrance. An 18 × 24-inch sign creates a larger display when you have appropriate backing or a stand and enough room around it.
The frame, mount and viewing distance matter as much as the dimensions. Put a smaller sign where guests will pass nearby. Use a larger sign when it needs to be noticed from farther away. Avoid placing either where people have to move around it to enter.
Check the included sizes in your chosen listing. Do not assume every welcome sign includes the same dimensions, and avoid enlarging a small export simply to fit a bigger frame.
What to edit before downloading
Replace the sample name and celebration wording. Keep the main message brief, and check the spacing after adding a longer name. If the template allows text changes, you can adjust the font size or wording to improve readability without rebuilding the entire layout.
Proofread the finished sign separately from the invitation. It is easy to update one design and leave sample text in another. Review the downloaded file as well as the Canva editor.
Party Template Shop's editable sign templates are digital purchases. Download the purchase PDF, follow the Canva access link and personalize the design using the account requirements stated in the listing. The safari sign works with a free Canva account.
Arrange printing and display materials together
Ask your printer which file format it needs and whether it requires bleed or crop marks. Choose the correct template size before downloading. For a large sign, discuss mounting or backing options if you need a freestanding display.
Printed signs, frames, easels and backing are not included with a digital template. Put those materials on your shopping list and check that they work together before party day. Our printing guide has more file-preparation help.
Test your setup in its planned position. Make sure it is stable, readable and clear of walking routes. If the celebration is outdoors, consider the conditions and move the display indoors if needed.
Keep your welcome area simple
A sign, a small decorative detail and a clear entrance may be all you need. Leave room for guests to arrive, carry bags and greet you. The welcome display should support that moment rather than create another obstacle.
